What is Pilates
Pilates is a mind body workout developed by Joseph H. Pilates more than 100 years ago to rehabilitate injured WW1 soldiers and later dancers at his New York studio.
His work with dancers quickly gained a reputation for its focus on strength and stability.
Joseph Pilates originally named his method Contrology and believed that physical and mental health were closely connected.
“Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong posture, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.”
The Pilates Method is known to strengthen the body from the inside out. This total body conditioning system is designed to tone and strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, improve posture and alignment, calm the mind and encourage efficient breathing patterns while helping you move more efficiently and confidently in everyday life.
What is mat Pilates?
Mat work is the original movement system Joseph Pilates created.
Mat Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on improving strength, flexibility, balance, posture and body awareness.
Performed primarily on a mat using your own body weight, it targets the deep core muscles while also strengthening the arms, legs, back and glutes.
Exercises can be modified to suit all ages, fitness levels and abilities, making Mat Pilates suitable for everyone!
Classes are capped at 12 participants to ensure nobody goes unnoticed.
Mat Pilates classes are available as a single class or a 10 visit pass.
“You will leave classes feeling leaner, lighter, longer and stronger!”
