What is Pilates

Pilates is a mind body workout developed by Joseph H. Pilates more than 100 years ago to rehabilitate injured WW1 soldiers and later dancers at his New York studio.

His work with dancers quickly gained a reputation for its focus on strength and stability.

Joseph Pilates originally named his method Contrology and believed that physical and mental health were closely connected.

Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong posture, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.

The Pilates Method is known to strengthen the body from the inside out. This total body conditioning system is designed to tone and strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, improve posture and alignment, calm the mind and encourage efficient breathing patterns.

What is mat Pilates?

Mat work is the original movement system Joseph Pilates created.

Mat Pilates are flowing classes that involve a series of exercises performed on the floor using your bodyweight as resistance. Classes emphasise the foundation principles of Pilates while offering modifications to suit your individual needs, giving you a total body workout designed to strengthen, stretch and mobilise your body.

Classes are capped at 10 participants to ensure nobody goes unnoticed.

Mat Pilates classes are available as a single class or a 10 visit pass.

You will leave classes feeling leaner, lighter, longer and stronger!
