My Pilates Story.
I would like to share with you My Pilates Story and how I continue to find inspiration with the exercises…
I was a Personal Trainer at Xceler8 Wagga when the owner approached me with the idea of introducing Pilates to the gym. I agreed as it seemed like a natural addition to my current routine of running a few times a week, gym classes to weight training. I enrolled in my first Piates Teacher Training course and studied while I continued to work fulltime.
I remember doing my first class at a studio In Sydney and thinking how my body was never going to look as graceful as my fellow students. I was a gym person able to do big movements and they were asking me to focus on using my mind, body and breathe to do the exercises!
I came away from that first class feeling fantastic and with a thirst to know more about Pilates. I knew I had a lot to learn about the history of Pilates and this soon became an obsession. I became fascinated with the exercises, the anatomy and the science behind it.
I loved how I felt after each Pilates session and quickly incorporated it into my daily routine . I started to notice changes within my body, my posture improved, the aches and pains I experienced from running decreased and overall I felt stronger. Wow! What a start and I was hooked.
I began teaching classes at the gym and incorporating the Method into my PT sessions with my clients. I discovered that I loved teaching Pilates and wanted to share my passion with everyone that I could. It soon became obvious to me that teaching Pilates was what I wanted to do as my fulltime job.
I left my job as a Personal trainer and felt sick with nerves as I was leaving the security of a weekly pay cheque to nothing. I had loved being a PT but I had lost the passion. I enrolled in another Pilates course and 18 months later after hours of travelling to Sydney and Canberra to complete my studies I qualified from Polestar Pilates with a certificate IV in Matwork Pliates.
I started teaching straight away and loved it. That was five years ago and I am now teaching Pilates in three studios in Wagga. I continue to learn and grow as a Pilates teacher and hope that my passion will inspire more people to see and feel the many benefits of Pilates.
